Dropping Loads! Crane Safety: Magnets and How to Use Them

When:  Oct 26, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 (CT)

In the metals industry, magnets are commonly used as one of the methods for lifting and moving steel with cranes. Oftentimes, magnets are not inspected, misapplied to the load or not matched to the load thickness or capacity.  When this happens, the load can separate from the magnet.  Dropping loads can result in serious injuries and even fatalities.

Tony Dominic, Director – SH&E, Olympic Steel, Inc. will:

-Discuss different types of magnets and their applications
-Provide an overview of consensus standards that apply to magnets being used as lifting devices
-Review the required inspections for magnets
